Latanya N. Jenkins

Temple University, PA

In memoriam.

We lost Latanya Jenkins to cancer in April 2021. We will dearly miss her inquisitive and thoughtful nature, her sense of humor, and the depth of knowledge that she brought to Library Freedom Institute. Latanya was memorialized by the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA) and the American Library Association (ALA) in June 2021.

Below is the biography that she originally submitted when she joined Library Freedom Institute.

Latanya N. Jenkins is an academic librarian and an award-winning co-author of the book: Government Information Essentials. The Government Documents Round Table of the American Library Association (ALA), of which she is a past emerging leader, awarded the Margaret T. Lane & Virginia F. Saunders Memorial Research Award in 2019. Currently, she works as a reference librarian at Temple University’s new Steve Charles Library in Philadelphia, PA, where she participates in the Faculty Senate. She is a proud ally and member of the library’s Diversity & Inclusion committee, which was a recipient of the campus Lavender Award. Her areas of responsibilities include Africology and African American Studies and government information. Latanya is the liaison for Temple University’s esteemed Africology and African American Studies department.
