SUMMARY:Intellectual Freedom for Information Workers
DESCRIPTION:Intellectual Freedom is one of the core values of the information professions. It guarantees the rights of library and archives users to read\, seek information\, and speak freely as guaranteed by the First Amendment. These rights are being challenged at an unprecedented level in libraries of all kinds all across America. This three-hour workshop will include presentations and breakout sessions with hands-on exercises. Join us to learn about the spread of mis- and dis-information and the role library workers play in the fight. Gain strategies for standing up for our values during crisis conditions and organizing against attacks on libraries. Public and academic library and archives workers\, community data workers\, and students are invited to join us for this interactive workshop to discuss intellectual freedom in their institutions\, assess the risks to vulnerable populations\, and share resources for continued learning. Following the program\, participants are invited to stay for lunch and discussion.\nThis program is supported by the Bernadette Callery Archives Lecture Series\, the Sara Fine Institute\, and the University Center for Social & Urban Research.
