SUMMARY:AI in Information Work: Ethical Considerations and Implications
DESCRIPTION:The last ten years have seen enormous advances in AI technologies. This progress has made AI an attractive tool to many\, and has resulted in its swift adoption across a range of fields and disciplines. But while AI represents powerful potential\, it also brings with it the risk of real harm. As information professionals\, library workers have a responsibility to equip themselves with knowledge about this technology and the implications of its widespread use. \nPublic and academic library and archives workers\, community data workers\, and students are invited to join Tess Wilson for this interactive workshop to discuss the use of AI in their institutions\, assess the risks AI poses to vulnerable populations\, and share resources for continued learning. \nFollowing the program\, participants are invited to stay for lunch and discussion. Please RSVP below to indicate your interest in attending the workshop and lunch. \nThis program is supported by the Bernadette Callery Archives Lecture Series\, the Sara Fine Institute\, and the University Center for Social & Urban Research.

SUMMARY:Practical Privacy Advocacy for All
DESCRIPTION:Join Library Freedom Project (LFP) deputy director Tess Wilson for a virtual talk about privacy\, intellectual freedom\, and information democracy through the lens of the library. By working collaboratively with partners and institutions\, this group of information professionals seeks to educate stakeholders and enact change. Through webinars\, trainings\, and resources\, community members can learn to be privacy advocates\, all through a lens of harm reduction and practical application. All resources created by this community of practice—including past workshops\, toolkits\, printable handouts\, and more—are available for free for anyone to use and share. Take this opportunity to learn about LFP and how they can support you as you advocate for and with your own community! Presented by Friends of the Mountain View Library.
